You wear smug so well

20140403-220318.jpg

(Here’s an inspirational quote to let you feel like you’ve enriched your life somewhat from reading this blog post.)

Hang on, you mean it’s April already? You mean we just went through three months of the new year as quickly as a flick of wrist? That can’t be right, can it? Geez, what have I done with my life in 2014? So much for saying 2014 would be a year of change. Hahaha! Resolution, FAIL.

So my exams ended on 24 February and I’ve been chilling since then with no care or worry in the world. It was awesome! In the process of letting my brain turn to vegetable after putting it through three years of mental hardship, I discovered quite a few things about myself that surprised me. So the “proverb” (not an exact idiom so to speak but the general feeling people talk about as they mature) is true; the older you get, the better you know yourself and the things you like or want.

Disclaimer: The truth is many people may not think I am mature because someone recently said I have the mental age of a teenager. That made me laugh out loud because it was so true. I’m extremely childish… If you get to know me in real life. So I think it’s better that you and I remain online buddies. Ha!

Anyway, here are three things I’ve realised about myself:

1. I have an obsessive personality. Once I get hooked to something or someone, I go all out and immerse myself with everything about them. I become so intense and focused that I devote all my free hours and thinking time to finding out more of a particular thing or person I’m into during this obsessive period. I can’t stop (and won’t stop) until all my energy is spent or I finally get sick of it. My obsession can last for as short as two weeks or as long as a few months. And I let nothing get into my way, which is pretty unhealthy if you think about it, because that can scare normal people off (if they knew). So far, only a few close friends know of my addict-like behaviour. Thank god they still love me! Oops.

2. The thing is I don’t really care who knows or what others may think about me. Yes, they can assume I’m childish or selfish or insane and be totally judgemental about me (even though they do not know me well at all). I don’t give a fuck! Honestly, I just want to be happy and laugh a lot all the time. I want to do the things I like or enjoy every day. And if I’m obsessed with someone or something, so be it! My heart feels fluffy and I’m always on a natural high; that’s all that matters to me. Remember, what clever Dr Seuss once said?

Those who mind won’t matter and those who matter won’t mind.

3. I definitely do not like pop or country music. In fact, I’ve deleted many pop songs from my iPhone playlist because I have never listened to them. I enjoy certain indie music and jazz tunes at times. I love house, trance and dance tracks when I’m on the go because of the energy! But my topmost favourites are electronic and chill-out lounge tracks (nearly all the songs that I’ve featured on this blog over the years can attest to that). Like hello, sexy times and soothing feels! How can anyone resist?

Case in point: The latest song on repeat in my playlist this week

You’re pushing me away and then you’re pulling. You wear smug so very well. If you were in love with me, I could never tell. You ask me, you ask me just to leave you, but then the bow breaks and it’s all through.

So hot, right? Go on, enjoy it. You’re welcome.

Lisa Kudrow’s epic speech on sexism

If you haven’t started watching the TV drama Scandal, you are missing out. You’ve gotta watch at the very least the sixth episode of the show’s third season, because it will blow your mind, especially if you believe in gender equality. I know I do, that’s why this was so inspiring.

In this episode of Scandal, Lisa Kudrow’s character, Congresswoman Josie Marcus delivers a scathing take-down of sexism in modern politics and the semantics with which men subtly put females down to her interviewer James Novak in an interview that is broadcast live on national TV.

“I know what prejudice looks like. It’s not about experience, James. It’s about gender. [Political opponent Governor Sam] Reston’s saying I don’t have the balls to be President and he means that literally. It’s offensive. It’s offensive to me and to all the women whose votes he’s asking for.”

Wow, right? Can you feel the room heating up? And the congresswoman goes on firing her bullets.

“It’s not just Governor Reston speaking in code about gender; it’s everyone, yourself included. The only reason we’re doing this interview in my house is because you requested it. This was your idea and here you are, thanking me for inviting you into my ‘lovely home’. That’s what you say to the neighbour lady who baked you chocolate-chip cookies. This pitcher of iced tea isn’t even mine; it’s what your producers set here. Why? Same reason you called me a ‘real-life Cinderella story’. It reminds people that I’m a woman without using the word. For you, it’s an angle, I get that, and I’m sure you think it’s innocuous, but guess what, it’s not.”

Powerful. Cutting. Straight to the point. And the politician who strives to be nice 24/7 finally shows that she has the temerity to bite when threatened. Strength is not derived from your gender, but your character.

“You’re promoting stereotypes, James. You’re advancing this idea that women are weaker than men. You’re playing right into the hands of Reston and into the hands of every other imbecile who thinks a woman isn’t fit to be commander-in-chief.”

The background story for her outburst is that minutes before her interview, Marcus is shown an ad from her political opponent Reston. The ad shows a woman’s trembling hand reaching for a doorknob, as the voiceover says: “On the other side of this door sit the leaders of Syria, China, and Iran. On the other side of this door is America’s future — success and failure, life and death. Does America really want an inexperienced hand opening this door?”

The ad doesn’t say it outright, but its subtext is indicating that a woman would not be confident enough to lead a country. Anyway, later in the episode, it was revealed that the ad was fake and created by Marcus’ campaign manager Olivia Pope to motivate her. Kinda expected if you’ve been following Scandal religiously. But still, excellent scriptwriting from the team, great editing and, of course, the kick-ass performance from Kudrow (but I have to admit that I keep expecting Phoebe Buffay to appear any moment).

The whole time I was watching the scene, I was subconsciously thinking of Hilary Clinton and whether she’d have the balls to make a speech like that. And would the American public love her or crush her in return? I’m already looking forward to the US presidential election in three years’ time, when hopefully Clinton or another strong capable female would run for the presidency and win. But most importantly, she would be an inspiring leader who runs the country efficiently and effectively. Now that would be quite a story to tell our future generations, don’t you think?

In love with Jaime Murray

20130917-220928.jpg

When I saw this pic, I chuckled out loud, because it’s SO TRUE. That’s what I do every single time after gazing lovingly at Jaime’s photos or watching videos of her and then I think to myself: “No wonder, I’m still single.”

This woman is so incredibly funny (just read her Twitter feed) and she looks gorgeous from almost any camera angle. And that British accent. She’s poised and she sounds intelligent. /me sighs. I was almost sad when I found out that she very likely has a long-term boyfriend. She just has a face and personality that said she’s meant to be a lesbian, you know.

Then again, I’d be equally sad if she was with a girl, but I’d get over it eventually, because she’d be an excellent advocate for all the lesbians in the world. Much like Ellen and Portia. I mean, no one actually knew that Portia was gay, right? And the next thing you know, she’s happily married to Ellen for many years now (something I blogged about months ago).

My crush on her is so deep that I keep refreshing all the social network feeds through the day just to read what she has been doing and see her latest photos. She’s the first person I want to read about and the last person I want to see before I sleep. No wonder, I’m still single. Right?!

My daily quota for Jaime is limitless. I just can’t get enough of this really hot woman. I first noticed her in Dexter and thought “Wow!” Then I saw her again in Warehouse 13 followed by The Finder and thought “Wahey!” Then I realised she’s in Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Defiance too and I was like “Woohoo!” /me is high on beauty.

So yes, I do think she’s perfect in every way. I so want a life partner like her! That’d be my idealistic dream and lusty fantasy come true. Make it happen this year, Universe. I’m right here waiting. For Jaime-lite. Hahaha!

Here’s a few more treats for you (but mainly it’s for me). Jaime was at Dragon Con signing autographs for her Defiance fans, when her devoted nerdsbians presented her with a crown, sceptre and dragon’s blood (which is really liquid soap, I think). She was so touched that she decided to wear the crown and carry the sceptre all the time whenever possible. How super adorable of her, right?!

20130917-224752.jpg

True to her word, Jaime wore the crown and carried her sceptre out to dinner with her best friend Julie Benz (another hot woman) weeks later. I haven’t stopped swooning since I started writing this blog post. Sigh.

You look lovely tonight

I accidentally caught this episode of Desperate Housewives on TV tonight, while flipping channels to see which shows would be a great noise filler during my online browsing activity. And wow, it blew my mind. I love it when a storyline takes a completely different turn and exceeds your expectations. I love it more when a really beautiful, sexy and extremely attractive woman with a husky voice says she digs chicks and that she’s a card-carrying lesbian. SO HOT!

Honestly, the entire scene was so hot I couldn’t stop chuckling. Watch the video, fast forward to the interesting bits and you’d feel what I feel. Immense glee and euphoria.

Robin: “You can always do what I did and explore other options … Cast a wider net, expand the pool; date chicks?”

That husky voice, that cheeky tilt of the head, that glint in her eyes, that knowing smile… All conspired to take my breath away. And that scene when she took off her robe and revealed a smoking hot body in lacy lingerie? And how she spilled maple syrup on her very well-filled bra? And how she scooped the syrup up with her finger and licked it off. Oh. So. Seductively. Woah. I came in my pants. Metaphorically. Blondes do seem to have all the fun. The silly infatuated look that Katherine had when watching Robin’s every move? I had the exact same expression when watching the scene. Repeatedly.

Robin: “I dated guys for a long time and I just never really felt a connection. And then I started stripping and I was surrounded by all these confident, sexy women. And I realised: ‘Robin, sweetie, you have been barking up the wrong tree.'”

Katherine: “Yeah… I think I got the right tree. Just sick of barking.”

Hahaha! What a great beginning to a burgeoning love story between two attractive women. I’ve stopped watching Desperate Housewives for a long time now, but this new story arc is threatening to draw my attention back to it. And this second video made me laugh and cry… It felt like a summary of stages and emotions I went through in my last relationship… Except this one had a happy ending and mine didn’t.

Robin: “I know how you touched me… And I saw the way you look in your eyes when I touched you. You may deny it now, but we connected. And it counted.”

P/S: Happy birthday to you. I watched the clock pause for the longest time at 11:59pm, wondering when it would finally strike 12. After what seemed like forever, the digits finally turn to 12:00AM and I realise I had been trying to run away from it the whole day. The more I tried to forget you, the more you’d appear in my mind. If it was up to me, I would have texted or even called you to wish you “happy birthday”, but I figured you would have all your best wishes and favourite people in the world celebrating with you by now.

Just like that Louis Koo movie you once cried while watching it, I don’t think I will ever forget your birthday, even when we are no longer speaking to one another. Don’t look so puzzled. You know why. So here’s to a second year of me secretly wishing you well on my blog.

Happy birthday, you. Oh, the places you will go.

A kiss between two cute girls

20130721-201040.jpg

These two girls are so incredibly cute together. I so want to see them together forever. Yes, even though they are just high-school kids who are probably susceptible to mood swings/fickleness/indecisiveness about love and their partners and have yet to enter the real adult world, Glee’s Santana and Brittany are the cutest ‘Lebanese’ couple in TV-land and I just can’t get enough of them. They give me so much hope. Seeing them make out is alluringly hot as well. Ahem.

Here’s a little heartfelt moment of how deep their love runs for each other and why they are meant to be together no matter what from Glee season 2, episode 15 “Sexy”:

Santana: I wanna be with you, but I’m afraid of the talks and the looks. I mean, you know what happened to Kurt at this school.

Brittany: But honey, if anybody were to ever make fun of you, you would either kick their ass or slash them with your vicious, vicious words.

Santana: Yeah, I know, but I’m so afraid of what everyone will say behind my back. Still, I have to accept that I love you. I love you and I don’t want to be with Sam or Finn or any of those other guys. I just want you. Please say you love me back. Please.

Brittany: Of course, I love you. I do. And I would totally be with you if it weren’t for Artie.

Santana: Artie.

Brittany: I love him too. I don’t wanna to hurt him. That’s not right. I can’t break up with him.

Santana: Yes, you can. He’s just a stupid boy.

Brittany: But it wouldn’t be right, Santana. You have to know if Artie and I were to ever break up, and [if] I’m lucky enough and you’re still single…

Santana: Don’t.

Brittany: I am so yours. Proudly so.

So hot. Right?

They are each other’s best friend and they understand each other better than anyone else do. I love how they are always together, always holding hands, cuddling, glancing at each other with a knowing smile and showing little signs of affection with each other.

Brittany even told Santana that she loves her more than she has loved anyone else in the whole world. And she is a very supportive girlfriend who would always try to help Santana achieve her dreams in her naive, slightly airhead way.

Santana, on her part, would defend Brittany to the hilt whenever anyone tried to criticise or bully her. She also turns gentle whenever they are together. Santana told Brittany that in her sophomore year she would sit at the back of the choir room and secretly watch Brittany. She would count the number of times Brittany smiled at her and died at the days she didn’t. How sweet huh?

20130721-212227.jpg

Brittany: Someday, I’m gonna marry Santana.
Santana: *smiles*

20130721-224254.jpg

They look so sweet together—a perfect combination of sexy, wild and cute at the same time. And I love how their friends are so supportive of them.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pGVTrtGgAmU&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DpGVTrtGgAmU

I especially love the part when Brittany pulled Santana’s arm out of her jacket, just so she could hold her hand. It just seems so natural and genuine. Swoons.

How incredibly hot if they were to be together IRL?! I might just faint.

Here’s a compilation YouTube video of their best moments together:

Here’s an even better compilation video of the trials and tribulations Santana and Brittany had to go through to be better: http://youtu.be/tSEr4ch4Pi0

Wow, okay, I have to stop now, before my crush for Brittana/Santittany turns obsessive. Then again, there will always be more obsessive fans than me on the Internet. So I’m safe. Hahaha!

You’ll be the death of me

I first heard this song on the TV telecast of Victoria’s Secrets Fashion Show 2012 and now, ‘I’m addicted and I don’t know why’. I have never been a huge fan of Bruno Mars — I’ve only liked his ‘Just the way you are’ and ‘Marry You’ and ‘Grenade’ songs because she first introduced them to me — so I’m surprised by how particularly mesmerised I am by this latest song’s chorus and the composition of the melody, even though I don’t think the lyrics make any sense. Actually, none of them ever do.

All you young wild girls

You make a mess of me

Yeah, you young wild girls

You’ll be the death of me, the death of me

All you young wild girls

No matter what you do

Yeah, you young wild girls

I’ll always come back to you, come back to you…

The slow ballad is so enchanting that I keep replaying the YouTube video. And seeing incredibly hot models strutting around in skimpy lingerie is the delightful cherry on the icing. Now I can’t stop daydreaming about these beautiful women whose bodies are so out-of-this-world — so svelte and lithe — that I wish I was a hard 10/10 on the scale of good looks. If only!

Also, I still can’t believe it’s 2013. I’m still having difficulty writing/typing 2013 on my word documents. And I have no New Year resolutions to speak of. Maybe to get myself a hot supermodel? Hehe!

Whatever will be, will be

20121205-010840.jpg

I meant to post this on 1 December as the opener for one of my favourite months of the year, but I was in a rush (ahem… also felt utterly lazy) the entire day and had little-to-no access to the Internet.

Anyway, December is one of my favourite months only because in about 11 more days or so, it’d be the day when I first appeared on this planet. Plus, I get to celebrate my lunar birthday around the same time too. Awesome huh?!

It has been a long year for me so far. There have been some ups and many downs throughout 2012 that I’m quite glad the year is coming to an end, except life wasn’t how I had envisioned it to be. In fact, it took my expectations set in early 2012 and spat on them. Of course, this is just a teaser to my biannual round-up blog post on 31 December, which is happening very soon. In three weeks’ time.

At any given moment, there are a few thoughts swirling in my head and there are times when I have absolutely no idea what is the right thing to do or say. Whenever I feel lost and uncertain with my choices, I console myself by saying: ‘Whatever will be, will be.’

Because when you think about it…

‘It’s not who you want to spend Friday night with; it’s who you want to spend all-day Saturday with.

Isn’t fun to have breakfast in bed and watch TV all day and just roll around and play and laugh with each other? Sometimes doing the simplest things with someone you truly adore give you your happiest moments.

‘You wanna be happy? Find someone you like and never let them go.’

Could life be really that simple? Because…

‘Hey, I want my best friend back, because I’m in love with her.

And to live together happily ever after all.

Every ending is also a beginning; you just don’t know it at the time.
